The University of Pittsburgh has a number of sustainability-focused and related academic research centers. In addition to research collaborations, additional Pitt centers include sustainability-related community partnership and outreach.

Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation

Established in 2003, Pitt’s Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI) promotes the incorporation of sustainability concepts and practices throughout the University of Pittsburgh . MCSI’s mission is to create and nurture innovations that benefit the environment, positively impact the University and community-at-large, and improve quality of life.

Center for Sustainable Business
Founded in 2019, Pitt’s Center for Sustainable Business (CSB) aims to promote the adoption of more sustainable business practices and to galvanize businesses to thrive for all stakeholders.
Pittsburgh Collaboratory for Water Research, Education, and Outreach
Since funded, the Water Collaboratory has conducted extensive outreach efforts to gauge research needs in the region with respect to key water challenges: water quality, green infrastructure, and flooding.

CONNECT - Congress of Neighboring
The Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT) brings together the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding municipalities to identify common public-policy challenges.

Working in the areas of air & water quality, oil & gas production, and environmental regulations, to represent low-income clients in matters ranging from legislative drafting to litigation to client counseling.

Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Network
The SW PA Water Network includes over 180 individuals from over 65 organizations throughout the region working together to ensure that water resources are sustainably, equitably, & collaboratively managed.
