Earth Month 2022

Join the University of Pittsburgh for our month-long celebration of Earth this April with playlists and events!

Join Pitt in celebrating Earth Month by engaging in content, attending an event, listening to a playlist, taking a class, or by pursuing a Pitt Green Designation.

The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, was a national “teach-in” event focused on educating people about the environment. Across the U.S., 20 million Americans (10% of the population) took to the streets, to protest pollution of their natural places.  As a result, in December 1970, Congress authorized the creation of a federal agency specialized in tackling environmental issues: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Earth Day has been annually celebrated in the U.S. for 52 years, and the University of Pittsburgh has been an active participant advancing sustainability initiatives since 1970. Learn more here.  Or you can explore the newly released Pitt Climate Action Plan detailing how Pitt will reach carbon neutrality by 2037.

Join the University of Pittsburgh for our month long celebration of Earth this April! Earth Month is a time to focus on our planet while learning about sustainability, environmental justice, and climate solutions. Check out the full list below of events happening all month long at Pitt and throughout the Pittsburgh Community!
