Plant2Plate Student Garden

Plant2Plate Student Garden

Plant2Plate Student Gardens are on-campus, student-run produce gardens.

Plant2Plate is a student organization at the University of Pittsburgh working to connect urban agriculture, kitchens, and community through service and educational opportunities.

They manage an urban student garden near campus (246 Oakland Avenue), which provides fresh, organic produce for students and local food pantries. Plant2Plate also engages the campus community around issues related to food and sustainability.

Their mission is to actively connect the Pitt community to their food through hands-on agricultural learning, including the upkeep of urban and edible gardens that provide fresh produce to the Pitt community and beyond.

Starting from a 2009 concept in GEOL 1333: Sustainability, where students identified a University-owned green space as an opportunity for urban agriculture, Plant2Plate grew into an 11,600-square-foot produce garden on Oakland Avenue.

Since 2010, Plant2Plate volunteers have produced hundreds of pounds of produce, distributed through the Pitt Pantry and the Oakland Food Pantry.
