LEED Certified, 2022
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown’s John P. Murtha Center for Public Service and National Competitiveness honors Congressman Murtha’s public service and legacy with an exhibit providing access to the Mr. Murtha’s Congressional Papers, a collection of personal documents and possessions.
The 7,400 square foot building became was Pitt Johnstown’s second LEED building, receiving its LEED Certified designation in 2022.
Green Building Highlights
- Takes advantage of daylight to light the building and to mitigate conditions of prevailing winter winds.

- Reduces its heat island effect with a highly reflective roof.

- Native plants eliminate the need for irrigation, while also aiding in stormwater management.
- Sustainable materials used in both the exterior and interior of the building promote the reduction of raw material use and improve indoor environmental quality.
- Tracked construction waste, recycled and regional material content of materials, and VOC levels of construction materials.
