New Bike Infrastructure Made Possible by Pepsi Grant

Award from Pepsi Zero-Impact Fund advances campus biking infrastructure and programs.

Campus biking programs enjoyed high ridership and infrastructure improvements across the board over the last two years, in part thanks to a generous grant from the Pepsi Zero-Impact Fund.

The $10,000 matching grant was used to purchase new Pitt-branded bike racks, Pitt’s first outdoor double-decker rack, and Pitt’s first electric cargo bike.

Pitt’s branded bike racks were installed in front of Hillman Library as part of a campus shuttle stop relocation project.

The covered double-decker rack, also from Dero, pops with color outside of the Posvar Hall Bouquet Ave building entrance. The rack adds additional bike parking capacity to a high-demand bike parking location on campus.

Pitt’s smallest pedal-powered fleet vehicle is the new RadBurro electric cargo bike which debuted at Pitt Arrival in August 2021 and has been testing routes and operations on campus since then. The electric-assist cargo bike (technically a trike) is a low-emission and low-cost alternative to motor vehicles.

Pitt is a Bronze-designated Bike Friendly University that was recently named Organization of the Year by BikePGH in 2021. For more information on biking on campus including bike parking facilities visit the Pitt Mobility Biking website.
