New Pittsburgh Collaboratory for Water Research finds Benefits to Water Fluoridation

In the Fight Against Tooth Decay: May the Fluoride Be With You!

The Pittsburgh Collaboratory for Water has recently taken a deeper look into fluoridation of community water systems in Pennsylvania through evaluation of already established scientific literature and conducting their own research.  In their document “In the Fight Against Tooth Decay: May the Fluoride Be With You!”, they set out to determine how and why fluoride is added to drinking water and other sources of fluoride.

The report states that fluoride is a natural element that exists in lakes, rivers, oceans, and groundwater. Their report finds that fluoridation of drinking water is an important public health measure in the fight against tooth decay. They have compiled a summary of the underlying science to help inform decision-making at both individual and municipal levels. They answer questions such as: What is community water fluoridation? What is tooth decay? And is my drinking water fluoridated? To learn the answers to these questions and more, read the full report here!
