On July 10, 2024, the second annual Pitt Green Suite Celebration honored Pitt’s Green Offices, Green Labs, Green Ambassadors, and Sustainability Professional Certificate recipients!

Our Pitt Green initiative, which began in 2019, aims to advance the University’s culture of sustainability across offices, departments, and divisions. By working towards the highest point level possible, the Pitt Green Office and Lab designation offers everyone the opportunity to become more sustainable in their activities, purchases, decisions, and events.

We have 4 Pitt Green Office and Lab designation levels that align with the Pitt Sustainability Plan:
- Seed (1-24% of points possible)
- Sprout (25-49% of points possible)
- Sapling (50-74% of points possible)
- Sustainable Oak (75%+ of points possible)
By the Numbers
- The Pitt Green community has grown to 1,000 members, up from 650 last year!
- Pitt Green Office teams expanded to 70 active teams, adding 26 new offices since our last celebration.
- We welcomed 5 new Green Labs.
- 33 offices and labs elevated their designation level.
- 40 new employees earned their Sustainability Professional Certificate through HR’s Faculty & Staff Development Program.
- 10 new Pitt Green Ambassadors joined our peer-to-peer mentorship program.
Thanks to all the amazing teams and individuals who create sustainable solutions, actions, strategies, and opportunities for students, faculty, staff, our campuses, Western Pennsylvania, and the world. Every person and decision matters; we welcome your help and encourage you to get involved by making your office green!
