Pitt Fleet Expands Efficient, Hybrid, & Electric Options via Enterprise Partnership
Expanded Pitt partnership with Enterprise Fleet puts us on a path to 268 future electric and hybrid vehicles.
In September 2020, the University of Pittsburgh expanded its existing partnership with Enterprise and entered into an agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management to lease a total of 268 electric and hybrid vehicles.
To start, 32 new vehicles – including pickup trucks, cargo vans, and passenger vans were delivered for use by the University of Pittsburgh’s Facilities department, faculty, and staff, with another 30 expected later this academic year. Overall, the agreement is projected to save the university $750,000 over the next five years. Pitt will reduce costs, upgrade its fleet with more efficient and electric vehicles, and make further strides towards its goal of making the Pittsburgh campus carbon neutral by 2037.
Specifically, the change to more efficient, hybrid, and electric fleet vehicles will help achieve the Pitt Sustainability Plan goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from direct transportation 50% by by 2030 (from FY2014 baseline).
Enterprise and Pitt currently partner on business rental, truck rental, and vanpooling. Enterprise Fleet Management will also provide routine vehicle maintenance. In addition, Enterprise will determine the optimal time for replacing vehicles once they have reached the end of their life cycle, ensuring that the university achieves higher resale values.
