Funding opportunities for engage in sustainability research, education and outreach from the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation for the 2019-2020 academic year.

For the 2019-20 academic year, the University of Pittsburgh’s Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation has five opportunities designed to help Pitt faculty and students engage in sustainability research, education and outreach. The opportunities are a part of Pitt’s annual efforts to engage researchers who are passionate about sustainability.  Learn more below and apply here.

Student Conference Grants

In order to more broadly promote Mascaro Center research as well as provide opportunities for MCSI-associated students to learn about cutting edge research and educational programs throughout the country and abroad, MCSI has allocated funds to support undergraduate and graduate student participation at conferences.  Students must be accepted to present an oral or poster presentation.  Conference presentations must be consistent with work supported by the Center. Funds will be allocated based on their relevance to the goals of MCSI and the broadest impact.  Students from all schools are encouraged to apply.

John C. Mascaro Faculty Programs in Sustainability

MCSI is pleased to announce the continued support of our Faculty Programs in Sustainability. All Faculty from across the University are able to apply as Faculty Fellows, Scholars or Lecturers in Sustainability. The John C. Mascaro Faculty program is designed to enhance the university’s mission of interdisciplinary excellence in research and education. Faculty members from all schools/disciplines across the University of Pittsburgh are encouraged to apply while seeking the engagement level that is most appropriate for them.

Sustainability Communications Training Grant for Faculty

This training is designed to help faculty across the University of Pittsburgh with research interests and expertise in sustainability to develop more effective communications skills. Training foci will include the ability to make complex and/or technical issues relevant and accessible to non-technical audiences, including the general public and media, as well as industry, government, and nonprofit partners.  Up to 15 faculty will be selected for the training which will take place in the Spring of 2020.

Research Seed Grants in Sustainability (All Disciplines)

MCSI is requesting faculty grant proposals for interdisciplinary sustainability education and research initiatives. The goals of the grants are: (1) catalyze the formation of convergent research teams focused on sustainability and associated solutions; (2) fund projects capable of obtaining external funding upon completion; and (3) enhance Pitt’s national recognition in sustainability and the visibility of interdisciplinary sustainability research and education on campus.

Student Group Grants

These funds are intended to support student groups who are initiating programs, activities or events that cover the broad topics of sustainability and help to advance Pitt’s Sustainability Plan.
