The University of Pittsburgh Pitt is piloting a water filter cartridge recycling program for ech2o cartridges in partnership with Millipore Sigma.

Usually replaced twice annually, used Millipore water filter cartridges can now be placed in the designated drum on the loading dock of Chevron Hall.  These used water filter cartridges are sent to Triumvirate Environmental in Jeannette, PA, where they are recycled into plastic lumber.

There are ~ 265 such standard laboratory water filtration units on campus.
