Pursuing LEED Certification

Under construction in the Hazelwood Green area of Pittsburgh, BioForge will will house a state-of-the-art biomanufacturing facility and spark novel cell and gene treatments and therapies from concept to market.

The building will be anchored by cutting-edge biomanufacturer ElevateBio and serve as a catalyst for medical breakthroughs and patient care innovations with advanced high-tech manufacturing, wet lab, and incubation spaces.

The newly constructed, 185,000 square foot building is pursuing LEED Gold certification or better under Core & Shell.

Hazelwood Green Highlights

  • Located on the 178-acre, LEED-ND Platinum Plan certified Hazelwood Green site, a historic industrial brownfield site helping continue Pittsburgh’s transformation into a sustainable, equitable, and inclusive model for urban development.
  • Hazelwood Green includes an abundance of green spaces, miles of publicly accessible bike trails, a redeveloped former steel mill and roundhouse.

  • Recycling, compost, textile, and other specialty recycling collection in line with the University’s landfill diversion practices.
