Since launching its comprehensive Sustainability Plan in 2018 and its Climate Action Plan in 2022, the University of Pittsburgh has been advancing 61 strategic goals, ranging from energy stewardship and equity-driven campus culture to clear pathways toward carbon neutrality. Progress is tracked transparently through interactive dashboards, and the University has earned recognition including AASHE STARS Gold (2021 and 2024), Princeton Review Green Schools, Bee Campus USA, and Bicycle Friendly University (Silver), reflecting Pitt’s leadership in campus sustainability at the intersection of stewardship, innovation, and community impact.
From biking to bees, Pitt has left no stone unturned when it comes to sustainable efforts. Such work has garnered numerous awards, including from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education’s Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System (AASHE STARS).
