Suzanne Doolen (she/her/hers) became a member of the sustainability club in April 2025 and serves as the lab manager for Dr. Michael Gold’s lab in the Department of Neurobiology. She got a BS in pharmacology from UC Santa Barbara and a PhD in pharmacology and toxicology from UC Irvine. In her role, she is committed to promoting sustainability by making thoughtful purchasing decisions that reduce waste and prioritize environmentally friendly lab practices. Suzanne brings a practical, hands-on approach to integrating sustainability into the daily operations of scientific research.
Her interest in environmental stewardship began early—recycling aluminum cans for extra spending money as a child—and deepened during college, where she lived on the Environmental Awareness Hall. She believes that small, consistent actions can lead to meaningful change and is excited to collaborate with others who share this vision. Outside of work, Suzanne enjoys biking, skiing, and playing the ukulele.
