Wondering how to make your office’s coffee habits more sustainable? We’ve got options available help!
Coffee Options
Use a traditional coffee maker, beans-to-cup machine, or reusable k-cup filter and compost your grounds by bringing them to a Pitt building with compost collection.
Compostable K-Pods
More than a few Pitt Green Offices have shifted to compostable K-pods. If you are interested in diverting your K-pods from the landfill, make sure that you are using BPI-certified compostable pods from brands such as Tayst or SF Bay. If your building does not offer compost collection, you will need to drop them off at a Pitt building with compost collection.
As a member of AASHE, Tayst has provided all Pitt buyers with a lifetime 10% discount — just use the code AASHE10. Tayst’s packaging materials are zero waste (i.e., all compostable or recyclable)!
Keurig K-Pod Recycling
K-Pod recycling mail back boxes are back! While we strongly recommend shifting to the zero waste options above, K-Cup recycling boxes are now by request. To register, contact Supra/ODP representatives Imani Boyd or Bill Reiner.
From May 2019 through December 2024, the University of Pittsburgh diverted thousands of K-pods to Keurig’s recycling program, which composted 75% of materials and recycled 25%.
