MCSI 2025 Grant Opportunities Open for Faculty & Student Groups

The Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI)’s 2025 grant applications are open! Each program aims to help faculty and students engage in sustainability research, education, and outreach.

Sustainability Research Seed Grants

MCSI is requesting grant proposals for faculty to participate in high-quality research endeavors in sustainability. The goals of the grants are: (1) Catalyze the formation of interdisciplinary synergistic research teams focused on sustainability; (2) Fund projects capable of obtaining external funding upon completion; and (3) Enhance Pitt’s national recognition in sustainability and the visibility of interdisciplinary sustainability research and education on campus. Open to ALL faculty.

Undergraduate Summer Research in Sustainability

MCSI’s summer undergraduate research program provides students with unique opportunities to go beyond the classroom curriculum and develop their own ideas via hands-on research while working under the guidance and mentorship of Pitt faculty. Faculty and staff across the university interested in advising a summer research student should submit an application. Pitt undergraduate students may apply once student applications open in 2025. Open to ALL faculty & undergraduate students.

Student Group Grants

Led by the Pitt Green Fund, student group grant applications will be reviewed collaboratively by the Pitt Green Fund, Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation (MCSI), and Office of Sustainability. Depending on project type and details, applicants may be eligible for sole or collaborative funding from these sources. Pitt Green Fund reviews project applications every Sunday night in the academic year . Eligible applications are reviewed by MCSI and the Office of Sustainability on a rolling basis following applicant meetings with Green Fund.
