Mohsen Jahandardoost is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. His vision is to establish a solar energy laboratory integrated with a newly developed elective course on solar energy for mechanical and electrical engineering students, providing hands-on experience in solar energy technologies. He is also exploring the development of a solar-powered charging station for electric vehicles on campus.
Dr. Jahandardoost earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in 2023, and dual master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Solar & Renewable Energy in 2014 from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He has nearly a decade of industry experience. His research expertise includes solar device degradation, solar energy system design, building energy modeling, net-zero construction, and LEED certification.
One of his proudest accomplishments was contributing his expertise to help UNLV team secure an impressive second-place finish in the prestigious U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon as a student competitor. Building on that success, he later returned to the competition as a mentor, where he guided and inspired the next generation of engineers to push the boundaries of innovation in sustainable design and clean energy technologies.
