Introduction

The Livingston Alexander House is the newest residence hall on the University of Pittsburgh’s Bradford campus, housing 170 first-year students.

Residents live in 2-person bedrooms within a section of 24 to 36 students. The residence hall includes its own study lounge and fitness areas.

The 46,133 square foot building achieved its LEED Silver certification in 2020.

Green Building Highlights

  • Thermal glass and insulation that helps reduce building-wide energy consumption by 30%.
  • High efficiency heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
  • 100% renewable electricity was purchased for the first two years of building operation, reducing the building’s carbon footprint.  
  • Water efficient plumbing fixtures help reduce water consumption.
  • Construction materials included recycled and recyclable content.
  • Wood used in the building was harvested from sustainable forests.
  • Furniture is made from natural and recycled materials.
