The Student Office of Sustainability (SOOS) is a student-run office at the University of Pittsburgh under the Division of Student Affairs, closely associated with the Office of PittServes. We provide, support, and enhance sustainability initiatives across the university. Established in 2014 by members of the Student Government Board Environmental Committee, we continue to lead the charge for a sustainable campus and beyond.
Mission & History
The SOOS’s mission is to support the potential of students to creatively revolutionize the way the Pitt community approaches environmental, economic, and social justice, and to inspire conversations about building a sustainable future.
SOOS was established in 2014 by members of the (then) Student Government Board Environmental Committee. Today, the SOOS SGB Liaison is on the SGB Cabinet and Assembly.
SOOS-Affiliated Student Organizations
Sustainability-focused and -related clubs and organizations at Pitt are encouraged to get involved with SOOS to help contribute to sustainability on- and off-campus. Official SOOS-affiliated organizations participate in strategy sessions and SOOS First Thursday meetings.
