The Student Office of Sustainability (SOOS) supports the potential of students to to infuse sustainability into the culture, values, and decision-making at Pitt. With a physical collaboration space in the William Pitt Union (510) , Founded in 2014, SOOS supports 20+ affiliated student organizations’ projects and goal-setting today, while helping students creatively revolutionize the way the University of Pittsburgh community approaches environmental, economic, and social justice — and inspiring conversations about building a sustainable future.
Mission & History
The SOOS’s mission is to support the potential of students to creatively revolutionize the way the Pitt community approaches environmental, economic, and social justice, and to inspire conversations about building a sustainable future.
SOOS was established in 2014 by members of the (then) Student Government Board Environmental Committee. Today, the SOOS SGB Liaison is on the SGB Cabinet and Assembly.
SOOS-Affiliated Student Organizations
Sustainability-focused and -related clubs and organizations at Pitt are encouraged to get involved with SOOS to help contribute to sustainability on- and off-campus. Official SOOS-affiliated organizations participate in strategy sessions and SOOS First Thursday meetings.
