4 Electric Box Trucks Come to Pitt
Pitt’s first electric vehicles are light-duty box trucks used for transporting mail, lab supplies, surplus property, library books, & other goods around campus.
Pitt is driving toward its greenhouse gas reduction goals with the addition of new zero-emission electric vehicles to its fleet. Four diesel box trucks used by Pitt’s Central Receiving Office for campus moving and delivery services have been replaced with Mitsubishi Fuso vehicles that can travel 60-80 miles on a single charge.

Pitt–Johnstown Is Pennsylvania’s First Campus Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary
National certification honors University of Pittsburgh regional campus in Johnstown for high standards of environmental management.
The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown has been designated as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. Pitt–Johnstown is one of eight universities to receive this certification and the first Pennsylvania university.

Let’s Clear the Air: Long-Term Environmental Justice Partnership in East End
Harold Rickenbacker’s doctoral research project helped Larimer community members become more involved and aware of environmental issues, and knowledgeable about green materials, infrastructure, and land-use practices. Efforts included outreach, involvement, participatory research, and consultation.

Pitt Wins the Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge, University Division
On March 21, 2019, Sustainable Pittsburgh announced the winners of the 2018-2019 Sustainable Pittsburgh Challenge. The SP Challenge is a friendly competition that encourages businesses, schools, and municipalities in the southwestern Pennsylvania region to track their sustainability performance.
